Mike Wallace (1918-2012)

Mike Wallace will be remembered by me as the greatest reporter of my time.

Who Says Your Vote Doesn't Count?

In our local runoff election for City Clerk, Cara and I changed our vote; instead of voting for the candidate we chose in the first election, we voted for the other—because the teachers' union was backing the former candidate. Preliminary results show that Gigi Hanna won by our two votes.

Ledesma Optometry

I broke my eyeglasses frames a couple weeks ago and immediately ordered a new pair from my regular optometrist, Ledesma Optometry in Redlands. I was told they would be in on Tuesday (this was a Friday) and that they would be covered under their free replacement policy. I called back on Tuesday, was told their courier would be in after 1:30. I called after 1:30, was told that I was given incorrect information: the frames would take as long as seven days to arrive. No problem—except that my backup glasses were several years old and not suitable for long-term wear.

Sprint Teams Up With Google Voice

Looks like an interesting new development, one which I'd use. However:

Neither service works for Sprint’s business customers...

And I pay for which increased level of service as a business customer? Dear Sprint: My current service agreement is up about the time the iPhone 5 (presumably) comes out. There are now two carriers with the iPhone. What are you going to do to keep this 10+ year customer on your network?

California is a Place

Not sure how I came across this site, but the stories of life in California are interesting and the videos are very well done.

The sad thing is that there's an easy way to fix this.

Facebook as an Investigative Tool

I had reason today to use one of those "people search" websites you've probably seen from time to time. I was wanting to find out who the owner of a particular AOL address was, so I Googled the address. Although the address didn't come up in the search listings, two paid ads for search services came up and I took my chances with one of them.

Google, Privacy, and You

It isn't that we shouldn't be doing things we don't want others to see, it's that perhaps we shouldn't be doing them all in one place, with a provider that tracks and correlates absolutely everything we do in our lives.

And some people worry about the cookies that are stored on their computer.

Google DNS

I've been using OpenDNS for some time now, mainly for faster DNS queries which result in faster website connect times. Something that's annoyed me, though, is that OpenDNS always shows, for example, "Did you mean 'donmorris.com'" when I type just "donmorris" in my browser's location bar. Seems like they could figure that out, but instead they want to show me a bunch of ads whenever I don't provide the TLD (.com, .net, etc.).

What are you thankful for?

Today marks Thanksgiving in the United States, and I'm writing this to remind you to take some time to reflect on the things you have to be thankful for.

Regardless of economic troubles or individual circumstances, each of us can be thankful for the life God has given us. And family and friends, either close by or across the world, are always a source of gratitude.

Thank you for the trust you've given me, shown by being on my list or reading my blog. I'm very grateful for that.
